Taylor Swift won top honors as Country Songwriter of the Year at last night’s BMI Awards in Nashville, becoming (at age 20) the youngest person in history to win the award. She is followed by Bill Anderson, who won the award in 1960 at age 23, and Johnny Cash, who was 24 when he won in 1956.
Taylor also took home the evening’s other big award, for Country Song of the Year, for “You Belong With Me,” making her the first-ever songwriter to win that award three years in a row. (Taylor’s “Love Story” won Song of the Year in 2009, and “Teardrops on My Guitar” won in 2008.) This marked Taylor’s second BMI top song win this year – in May, she won Pop Song of the Year for “Love Story.”
Taylor was honored during the evening for her hits “Fifteen,” “White Horse,” and “You Belong With Me,” all from her 6X-Platinum Fearless album, and for “Best Days of Your Life” (recorded by Kellie Pickler).
